Sweet Magnolias Heads To New York

It’s summer in Tampa Bay, and that means sweet tea, afternoon rain showers and sun-soaked evenings. But when Season 5 of Sweet Magnolias arrives, the fan-favorite trio from the hit show trades the small Southern town of Serenity, South Carolina, for New York City as they pursue exciting new opportunities. The beloved series, featuring Tampa native JoAnna Garcia Swisher, debuts June 11th on Netflix.

Our favorite best friends, Maddie (Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott) and Helen (Heather Headley) are returning to the small screen, as they balance their relationships, family and careers. But fans of the series will see some new faces this season, including Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who plays Nell Winters, a writer in New York City with whom Maddie develops a friendship.

Viewers can expect a season filled with wedding drama, ambitious new pursuits and a shocking mid-season twist as Maddie, Dana Sue and Helen navigate the next chapter of their lives—relying on the strength of their friendship to weather every challenge that comes their way.

“In everybody chasing their dreams, somebody’s catching them, some people are finding they were changed and some people are just stumbling,” says Showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson. “We like having the three ladies in different places every season.”

Sweet Magnolias airs exclusively via streaming on Netflix.
